7th grade students studied creek life and water quality last week at Hickman Creek.

* Starting April 20th our school day will be extended 30 minutes until the end of the year.  The school day at SMS will end at 4:25 p.m.

* Volleyball Camp for 4th & 5th grade girls on May 6th from 5:00 - 7:00. Cost is $15 which includes a t-shirt and pizza. Send in registration form. Questions? Email Lisa Hager.
*Theatre Academy taught by the professional staff at Lexington Children's Theatre returns to Southern!   Thursdays April 9-May 14 4:00-5:00 (6 classes)  Sketch Comedy!  Location: Southern Middle School   Tuition: $65
Students will discover the premise of what makes a scene funny, through exploration of published material and creating their own characters.  Students will take risks, build confidence and experience success in their comedy!  The class will showcase their scenes and original works at the end of class. * Need a safe place for your middle school aged student to be during the summer? Consider enrolling in Camp R.E.A.L. which is run by the Parks and Recreation Department and FCPS. More information found here about dates and times. Field Trip information can be found here.

* Yearbooks!  Pre-order your 2015 SMS yearbook for $30.  Students are in the front hall before school taking orders.
* Spirit Days:  Whenever there is a HOME athletic event, we have a Spirit Day at school.   Students may wear SMS-issued T-shirts, sweatshirts, or hoodies.  The athletes playing in the HOME game that night are allowed to wear their team’s jersey (if sleeveless, a t-shirt must be worn underneath).  All other dress code rules apply.
