* Leading the way: STLP Students
Congratulations to Duane Keaton and the Southern Films group for their outstanding showing at the State STLP Competition this weekend. SMS Southern Films achieved 1st place in both the Cinemania and PSA categories. They also received the award for Best Showcase Project from Regional Group. Congratulations to Duane and these dedicated students for their hard work and their accomplishments! Good job and keep up the great work!

Are you interested in serving on Southern's Site Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council? Fill out the Nomination form and turn it in to the Front Office by Friday, May 11th at 3:55 to get your name on the election ballot.
Elections will be held on May 19th from 5:00 - 6:00 before the Band Concert.

* Camp R.E.A.L.
Parks and Recreation sponsors a summer program called Camp REAL for middle school aged students at SMS from June 6 - July 22 from 7:15AM - 6:00PM. Click here for more details.
* Incoming 6th Graders
Register for Camp Storm to ease the transition into middle school. Students will meet their teachers, get their schedules & lockers, and make new friends all before school starts.
Camp Storm is Wednesday, August 2. Check in from 9:00 - 9:30 with a parent. Pick up is at 11:00. Fill out the registration form and return to Holly Morrow.

* Girls Basketball
Tates Creek HS girls' basketball team is having after school works outs. Contact Coach Perkins for specific dates & times.
* Southern Students Supporting our Community
What a giving group of students here at SMS! A BIG thanks to all those who gave money to help support these two worthy organizations.
Student Council raised money for the American Heart Association by oraganizing the Grade Level Penny War, Hoodie Day, & T-shirt/Hat days. The total collected was $450.
Technology Student Association (TSA) would like to thank for your donations that totaled $519 in support of the American Cancer Society Hope Lodge.

* Dress Code Policy:
The Dress Code Policy for the 2015-2016 has been updated. Several changes have been made so more focus can be on instruction and student achievement.

Any student planning to try out for a sports team will need to have a current Athletic Sports Physical. The form has been updated since last year. Open the link "General Adminstrative Forms" then open "MS01...Middle School Physical Form"
